Docks and locations

Recording which bay took a delivery, and when more than one is worth having.

A location is a place goods arrive. One is created for you at sign-up, called Main dock, and for most businesses one is the right number forever.

A flat illustration of a loading bay drawn as a plan from directly overhead: a roller door along one edge, two pallets, scattered cartons, painted floor markings and one person seen from the top.
Two doors and a yard is still two places a pallet can be, and the record should say which.

When a second is worth it

When you genuinely receive at more than one address and want to tell them apart in the log and on reports. A second bay at the same site is usually not worth separating.

Put another way

Separate tills in a shop. Worth counting apart if they are in different branches, not if they are two metres from each other.

Worth knowing

A location that has taken deliveries cannot simply vanish, because the deliveries reference it. Renaming is usually what you actually wanted.
